Ghajini

A new story short story blog - SURPRISE
____________________________________________

This much awaited Aamir Khan starrer was released today on the 24th here in the New Jersey. Since I had half day at work I caught the early show. Firstly as described in many articles all over - this movie is NOT A COPY OF MEMENTO. Just the basic premise and concept are the same. Other than that its an all in all Bollywood movie.
I loved the movie not just because I admire Aamir Khan but it also left me disturbed and thoughtful. Will not reveal much about the movie here, just some observations.
Disturbed because we take our given faculties of sight, sound, touch, reasoning, analysing, retention of good and bad for granted. But when you see the apathy of the person who has a short term memory loss you realize that life can suddenly become so empty and full of struggle if we miss one of those beats.
All in all Aamir and Asin did a great job and I enjoyed the movie. A big plus was seeing the physical change in Aamir. He looks cool. Here are links to two videos on youtube (Aamir Khan Ghajini Body in Making) Part 1 and Part 2 where he shares his one year endurance to loose that fat and convert it to muscles. That is what left me with a thought. If one makes up his/her mind anything is possible and you can change you life around.
Lastly Aamir is known to be a perfectionist, but I guess he was not involved with the script. And my blogs and me love observing - so here are some bloopers that I think should have be taken care of to make the movie crisper :
1) In the beginning of the movie it is said that Aamir medical case is a police affair - but it does not make sense as the movie progresses
2) He has Short Term Memory loss and at a point he goes to nab a person who he is after (will not reveal much) - how he gets that information is not shown
3) Aamir is a left handed writer (Glad to know it as I am a lefty too) but a diary he keeps has writing in Hindi which slants towards the right from top to bottom. That again is a flaw.
4) He is off to London - and they show stamping his Schengan Visa - which is not a valid visa for United Kingdom. One needs to get a separate visa.
Well that is my first impression - am sure to see it again as this is a real long weekend. Hope you guys fill me in as to how you liked it.
Also there is a spanish movie called NOVO. It also deals with short term memory loss and the concept of love.
Have a happy holiday and merry christmas to all.

@compassion

Sure...I completly agree with you....but this is a take on the actor himself who is known in the industry to shoot/reshoot to make it perfect...

I was only vigilante :)

Mr. in my view we should not analyze for logics. After all its a movie and it should be entertaining. I already told you that you wont like this movie much. Check out the tamil/telugu version to find any difference you might think.

i agree on that visa bit ... i had once traveled to Norway on schengen visa and from there i wanted to visit London and had acquired diff visa for that :)

and abt persons who miss one of the senses ... i truly agree with you ... its not unless you experience or visualize someone like this ... you don't realize the importance of that. So we should thank GOD for that.

Hey interesting bloopers pointed out there!frankly speaking i dint like anything abt the movie except for Aamir's acting. I felt there was a strong south indian influence coz it's been made by a south indian director. The touch was very evident. Cud hav been much better, even though aamir was good!

@hiren

Yup exactly my friend - we should thank GOD for whatever is dished out to us...

I think and I know you will agree that there is always someone in a much worse position than us so we should be aware of it all the time

But the sad part is not many have this sensibility as greed and ego takes them over....hope you find the "baddhu" this year ;)

Oooops...I just did that...only thing I didn't blink...I was drowning in the droolworthy Amir...sorry...missed all the bloopers goopers whatever...now it doesn't matter...heheh
Loved the movie..

Nitin said...

I agree with u that Aamir haven't involved much..
few more to add...

No reference of how he donated 5 lakh to charitable organization and asin giving him 1.35 lakh for mom operations.

While flying out to london they got out of the car at international A/p but chek in process they showed was mumbai domestic terminal. ( But I guess it was gud to show domestic A/P atleast it will leave gud impression outside)...

Well, I've seen the Tamil version and I really liked it.. mainly the flash back part.. I will watch the Hindi version and let's hope it live up to my expectations.
:)

ceedy said...

@veens

kewl :)

ceedy said...

@prats

yeah agree it doesnt matter....I saw it again...simply loved him in the movie

ceedy said...

@nitin

yes...i saw it again and know exactly what you mean...so as we assume he was not totally involved with every aspect here...

thanks for the input

ceedy said...

@pavi

Honestly first two days the reviews were so so....but if you do follow the news...this movie is already turning out to be a biggest blockbuster of all times...

and comparing to the southern version...yes I have seen that too...there are some subtle differences in the hindi one....

but for me the reason alone to watch it twice is AAMIR

ceedy said...

@pri

seasons greetings to you too...

in this case yes...he is not a perfectionist as we all have been made to beleive...hope you get better soon...btw did you watch rab ne???? SRK fan

ceedy said...

@aneesh

first off...there are differences between the two movies...even tho most of it is the same...

I have seen the tamil version and it is awesome too and this one is awesome too cause of aamir....

hope you enjoy it

Without expecting much, I went to watch Ghajini on the big screen on 26th and ended up liking it. Aamir Khan is admirable!

Anonymous said...

one more for the blooper list- when Jiah and Aamir are following the villain's car, it is shown as a 2008 Land Cruiser, but the next shot of the same sequence shows an older model..

I liked the characterisation- compared to the Tamil version, Aamir worked on and developed the hero's role much better.
It was released here on 25th- took me 2 viewings to like it :-D
first one was solely the hype of his body and the 'remake of a remake' thing- which by the way is not the case.. 2nd time around I *actually* enjoyed it and liked it!

Fighter Jet said...

hum..very nice obeservations..but dont agree somewhat that its not Mememnto,when the basic features are same and the USP of memento ..short term memory loss are copied ditto.

I would say Memento was a marvel in the story telling technique..Ghazani is just Some Memento+Bollywod masala+emotion.

Sameera Ansari said...

Great observations! :)

I felt the movie was too hyped up.

Anonymous said...

I did watch Gajini last night ... and it sucked great donkey balls .... and to my horror i was told that Gajini is a copy of a Tamil 'Gajini' which is copy of " Momento " .. now i have no clue how Mr Perfect agreed to act in a "copy of a copy of a original" ..... I think Aamir has lost it finally ... Now this is a great example how even the best succumb to bollywood.

@indicaspecies

Glad you enjoyed it...the movie is makeing waves :)

ceedy said...

@abreysham

So i get it you do like cars :) from your observation - nice one there

yes i agree....i went thru the same process...saw it twice...did the same with TZP

ceedy said...

@fighter jet

well I do agree that the concept are the same...and so it is in the movie Novo if you see it...

but this is a bollywood masala flick all the way..where as Memento was slick and far more disturbing....

so you are right about it..

ceedy said...

@sameera

Well I guess....we as Indians are not used to marketing too much....but I feel its the same with many blockbusters here....

ceedy said...

@grey

hahahah...well you have your opinion and I respect it....but I am Aamir diehard fan...so the movie actually did not matter much.....

btw it is being loved by everyone...has broken all records for collection for a movie in the first week....
