23andMe

Are you interested in a pair of jeans? (oh genes I mean )

23andMe is a Biotech Genome Service founded by Anne Wojcicki, Google cofounder Sergey Brin's wife.

You can read in detail about the project and what it deals with at 23andMe. The data they produce is optimized to provide information about our ancestry, our inherited traits and how our genes may affect our chances of developing certain diseases or conditions.

I have always been interested in .Genetics. This service costs $999.00 to analyse one Genes and unlock the secrets of one DNA. Someday I will sent my "spit" and get it analysed.

Learnt some interesting facts browsing the website:

- I am among only 17 percent of worlds population being a complete left handed person (check this slides - tells you other percentages )
- What this service offers and analyses is different from the forensic DNA analysing database that Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Codis Database contains.
- DNA differs by a mere 0.5% between humans and 1.5% from a Chimpanzee - Imagine if GOD sneezed while creating you....
- As a sperm or an egg contains only 23 chromosomes picked from a total of 46. 23 chromosomes from the father in a sperm and 23 from the mother in the egg. These when combine form the total of 23 pairs of chromosomes -to make you. Since the 23 chromosomes in each is random selection - you differ from your siblings.
- Certain variations in the type are what determines our likeness for sense, taste, preference etc. but even here they are not able to still determine what guides our emotions. (Is that an unexplored part of science)

Its interesting to see the complexity with which we are formed - the constant mutations and permutations that our cells undergo.

Fascinating and it is all such a wonder right? Genetics is a fascinating subject. As much as we don't know about the space
and stuff ... i think the same goes for things we don't know about ourselves...

Genetics is always an intersting topic to explore...
And btw, black template ???!!!!!
It kills my eyes....the white one was so much more comfortable.
is this it, or this too is work in progress..I sure hope the latter..

That was a very interesting piece of info, friend.Need to check it up soon.
Looks genetics is going to effectively take out the fun in life by predicting everything of of our future..I feel life is fun because of its unpredictable nature including our own health !!

thas an ineresting link ...marvels of genetics yet again :)
the subject of chromosomal studies has always interested me...but wish it was more looked into...
there would be no issues of chromosomal anomalies had it been easier approachable and accesible (read economically)to the general public...

that template almost surprised me...thought i had reached some different page ...
had to confirm with the pic...unfortunately no DNA analysis to confirm blogger idenity here :p (ok ok i know...bad one!heehee)

its the structure that holds us together....

not SOM :)

btw for now I like this black template - am learning to code it - compleltly designed by me...

once i get a hang of the code then i will change :)

c e e d y said...

@Compassion Unlimited

I agree and disagree....

think of it this way...we who have everything intact and are the lucky few to be able to enjoy this unpredictable...

but for some who need that crucial genetic input to change their life to make it more predictable...it will be a boon...

like all scintific breakthru......it has its pros and cons.......right sir

@pri

it is in a very advanced stage here in the US....

was really interested in 1992 to take up gentic engineering - at that time there were only 50 in the world....but somehow could not get the parents to agree.....skeptical....so became an architect - but still hold the subject dear to my heart

also the basic need is to find out y i am like this :P

thanks for the template

romila said...

Hmm! You remind me of my dad who's always into DNA and Ribosomes, genome and all those stuffs.

But have to admit, it's an interesting subject.

Solitaire said...

So you are left-handed huh? Many of my friends have observed that more Gujjus tend to be left-handed. Do you think this is true?

c e e d y said...

@romila

yes its intriging...do i sound that old :)

c e e d y said...

@solitaire

dunno about gujjus...never tot of that - but in my moms side family we are around 8 left handed and two ambidextrous....

as long as its not a fashion statement - some girls/guys i know eat with the left hand cause it just looks cool.....but one can make out the natural vs put on flair....

Cinderella. said...

And design one for me too, perhaps ??

c e e d y said...

@cinderella

yeah i can design and pass you the xml codes...thats no problem i guess :)

was just about getting used to the calmness of the previous template- this one sprang out on me so couldn't help commenting.

@abreysham

well change is constant....if it looks imposing to you I would just say "Thats your opinion man" (like in big lebowski)
